雅思口语：励志的喜剧演员

　　大家以后在雅思口语里被问到名人话题的时候，一定记得，名人的励志故事最好说!不管你说的是谁，都让他或她的奋斗经历惨一些，甚至瞎编几个狗血倒霉的剧情，然后经过奋斗，成功逆袭，走上人生巅峰。最常见的剧情就是奋斗的路上生病、亲友故去、被经纪公司坑、被朋友出卖、Blah blah blah…

　　下面的故事可以发生在任何喜剧演员身上，大家随便编个名字放上去，骗骗考官就行了：

　　I’d like to talk about XXX, who used to be a stand-up comedian.

　　Her life story is pretty inspiring. She grew up in a small village, and she’s got a little brother to take care of. When she was in college, she took several part-time jobs to support her family. After she graduated, she worked really hard, and she took every opportunity to perform on stage, hoping she could be well known someday. However, things didn’t work out as she planned. What’s worse, she got seriously sick, which made her put on a lot of weight.

　　Everybody thought her career in the show business was over, even her family thought that way, but she’s much tougher than people thought, I mean, nothing could knock her down, she’s not a quitter, if anything she’s fighter. She kept fighting against the disease, and finally she recovered. And her life took a turn from there. After she got out of the hospital, she got spotted by a talent scout, and she got a part in her first comedy. And overnight, she became a household name. Everyone could recognize her cute, chubby face and penetrating laughter. Her acting career took off since then.

　　Now after years of hard work, she has become the most accomplished comic actress in China.

　　语言点解析：

　　stand-up = [only before noun] stand-up comedy consists of one person standing in front of an audience and telling jokes例如：

　　a stand-up act

　　a stand-up comedian

　　knock somebody down = to hit somebody and make them fall to the ground例如：

　　She was knocked down by a bus.

　　He knocked his opponent down three times in the first round.

　　if anything = used to express an opinion about something, or after a negative statement to suggest that the opposite is true例如：

　　I'd say he was more like his father, if anything.

　　She's not thin—if anything she's on the plump side.

　　fighter = (approving) a person who does not give up hope or admit that they are defeated

　　turn = an unusual or unexpected change in what is happening例如：

　　a surprising turn of events

　　His health has taken a turn for the worse (= suddenly got worse).

　　Events took a dramatic turn in the weeks that followed.

　　The book is, by turns, funny and very sad.

　　household name = a name that has become very well known例如：

　　She became a household name in the 1960s.

　　penetrating = (of a sound or voice) loud and hard = piercing 例如：

　　Her voice was shrill and penetrating.

　　talent scout = talent spotter = a person whose job is to find people who are good at singing, acting, sport, etc. in order to give them work

　　part = a role played by an actor in a play, film/ movie, etc例如：

　　She was very good in the part.

　　(figurative) He's always playing a part (= pretending to be something that he is not).

　　take off = (of an idea, a product, etc.) to become successful or popular very quickly or suddenly例如：

　　The new magazine has really taken off.

　　Her singing career took off after her TV appearance.
